NEIGHBOURHOOD SECURITY - BASIC INFORMATION

WHAT IS NEIGHBOURHOOD SECURITY WATCH?
Neighbourhood security watch brings neighbours together to become the eyes and ears of the neighbourhood. This will assist you to make your home and family safer. Most of all, you learn to pay attention to what is normal in your neighbourhood so that we can recognize what is suspicious.
HOW DO YOU START?
·         Know your neighbours – Your neighbours are your biggest ally in keeping your home safe. So introduce yourself to your neighbour.
·         Circulate important phone numbers – Security Gate Numbers and State Emergency No. (767)
·         Show interest in what goes on in the street
·         Know the Gate Security Men (by name)
BASIC SECURITY MEASURES when you are driving into the street
·         Raising personal consciousness to security at all times
·         When driving into the street gate, pay attention to those by the gate and watch out for tail gating cars (cars that closely follow you into the street). If you see a tail gating car, stop and ask the gate security men to check who the person(s) are.
·         Observe those who stand or hang out in dark areas in the street. If you are not comfortable with their presence, alert the gate security men.
BASIC SECURITY MEASURES in your home
·         Secure doors with padlocked bolts or deadlocks
·         Increase fence gate security if a high front fence could shield a burglar from view
·         Look at your front yard from a criminal's point of view, and trim shrubs to remove hiding places
·         Try to light all external areas with an indoor switch or with movement activated lights
·         The number on your home should be large enough to be seen from the street in day or night to help in emergencies
·         Lock your doors from inside when you are home; many burglaries occur while people are home
·         Lock front doors and windows when you just step out to relax or taking a walk outside
·         Keep your keys out of obvious places like the easily accessible table
·         Pay more attention to make your side and rear doors as securely as the front door; ensure they are locked at all times and the keys within your reach in case of emergencies.
·         Don’t hide your keys outside your homes. You may leave your key with a neighbour or friend rather than leaving it in hiding places outside the house.
·         Always keep your neighbours phone numbers to alert them when you notice some unusual activities.
·         You can use electronic security devices like intruder/burglar alarms systems that have facilities for remote alert to further enhance your home security.
REMEMBER, YOU CAN’T BE TOO CAREFUL!
